The Danish Transport Authority, the Danish Road Directorate, the Danish Energy Agency and Banedanmark have decided to live under the same roof in a 41,000 m2 office building on Kalvebod Brygge. The building is surrounded by railway lines and the City Ring, which also undertook groundwater lowering while the open cut for the office building was excavated.
Aarsleff worked as a sub-contractor to A. Enggaard between 2016-2017. Aarsleff was responsible for establishing and excavating the associated open cut measuring approx. 100 x 100 x 8 metres. COWI acted as consultant to Aarsleff at this time and designed a system of groundwater management that effectively lowered the water table in the open cut. This made it possible to excavate the foundations.
This was a complicated process because of the large quantities of water, groundwater contamination and requirements for reinfiltration of the pumped-up groundwater, but the excavation was a success and was completed within the planned timetable.
